NASCO-Guard® specimens are processed and packaged by skilled technicians in compliance with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations.

NASCO-Guard® specimens are the best and safest money can buy. The unique NASCO-Guard® process for preserving specimens has been patented under Patent No. 3573082. In the NASCO-Guard® process, skilled Nasco technicians remove the formaldehyde fixative in a series of water baths, and then painstakingly perfuse the specimens with propylene glycol until tissue fluids contain at least 25% glycol. Propylene glycol acts as a humectant to ensure moist specimens and lowers the vapor pressure of residual formaldehyde. NASCO-Guard® specimens are not packaged until they have met Nasco’s rigid quality control standards for content of formaldehyde and propylene glycol. NASCO-Guard® specimens contain less than 0.3% residual formaldehyde. A Safety Data Sheet for NASCO-Guard® is included with each shipment.
