Grades 2-12.
Expand your STEM/STEAM lessons and the capabilities of your Inventor's Kit for the BBC micro:bit handheld computer (SB53372) by providing the perfect way to learn about the wonderful world of ZIP LEDs. ZIP LEDs (sometimes referred to as NeoPixels™) are individually addressable RGB LEDs, allowing each LED to be controlled independently. All LEDs are connected using the same 3-wire bus. Each LED can produce a full spectrum of colors independently of other LEDs on the same bus. The LEDs are simple to control and can be used to produce a whole range of fantastic colors. 10 experiments (9 in the booklet and 1 online) will help students develop the skills needed to add visual feedback to their projects. Students will learn how to write code to take control of ZIP LEDs, including how to make ZIP LEDs respond to input from components such as potentiometers and sensors. The ZIP LEDs are compatible with Adafruit® NeoPixels™ and other WS2812B driver code. Use MakeCode Blocks or MicroPython to code the ZIP LEDs for the BBC micro:bit (not included).
