Physical Development
Students learn about an infant’s nervous system, typical brain growth, and innate reflexes. Users discover how gross and fine motor skills develop and the importance of good nutrition and sleep in the first year of life. Also addresses how physically challenging conditions can affect infant development.
Cognitive Development
Teaches students about the different parts of the infant brain and the function of brain cells. Users learn about Piaget’s theory of development and how infants fit into the sensorimotor stage. Students also examine infant intelligence, memory, and the beginnings of communication.
Social and Emotional Development
Explains the developing stages infant emotions and their growing ability to recognize and mimic the emotions of others. Users learn how infants form attachment relationships and how emotional growth can be affected by personality and temperament.
