Grades 6 and Up. Teach students about basic relationships within our solar system, general characteristics of the sun, and what happens during a solar eclipse. Students will learn how to use a sunspotter and a solar motion model to collect data. Using laboratory tools, they will also perform calculations for a fictional planet and calculations related to the elliptical orbit of planets around the sun. Students will build their own pinhole projector to study the properties of the sun. Includes sunspotter, solar motion model, compass, clinometer, and eclipse viewing glasses.
