Students will explore key concepts while preparing for higher education. Activity contains enough materials for 15 lab groups as well as a teacher’s guide and student study guide copy-masters.

Students will use titration to determine the actual concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the bottle, if it matches the value on the label, and how much it degrades over time. Meets Big Idea 3, Investigation 8, and Primary Learning Objective 3.9.

Kit includes:

  • 1,000 ml iron ammonium sulfate, 0.1M
  • 1,000 ml potassium permanganate, 0.02M
  • 1,000 ml sulfuric acid, 6M
  • 250 ml hydrogen peroxide, 3%
  • 250 ml hydrogen peroxide, 6%
  • 500 ml deionized water

    Materials needed but not supplied:

    • 50 ml buret
    • Lab stands with clamps
    • Volumetric pipettes
    • Pipette bulbs or pi pumps
    • Erlenmeyer flasks
    • Graduated cylinders
