Follow the monarch butterfly throughout its life cycle. In March and April, the eggs are laid on the milkweed plants in North America. However, since monarch butterflies cannot survive cold weather, they migrate in October (or sooner) to Mexico and southern California, making them the only insects that travel 2,500 miles from their birthplace. By the time the adult monarch returns north from Mexico, it will only live a few months. 50 minutes. Copyright 2014.
