With this kit, you have everything you need to help students learn more about their classmates and build a more inclusive classroom.

In this lesson, students will:

  • Learn what a community is and what it means to be part of one
  • Identify similarities and differences in peoples personalities and how they weave together to make a community
  • Reflect on what makes them an important part of their communities

The included lesson plan will walk you through prepration and instruction, making planning quick and easy. The unit lasts about 90 minutes or 23 class periods.

Students will complete a worksheet that will help them brainstorm all the qualities and talents they bring to the classroom community. Afterward, theyll design and color a quilt square that reflects their valuable contributions.

When all the squares are created, students can present their square to the class. Then you can compile everyones squares together to create a beautiful, colorful classroom quilt that can be displayed.
