Students are roller coaster engineers hired to design a roller coaster that includes at least one loop, one wide turn, and one sharp turn. At different parts of the roller coaster, engineering concepts will be applied to ensure rider safety. Using the engineering design process, students research concepts related to roller coaster structures, brainstorm designs, build, and test their scale model of a roller coaster made from cardstock. Students will explore concepts of gravity, velocity, acceleration, Newton's First Law of Motion, friction, and the history of roller coasters. This kit contains enough materials for 10 groups. Access to curricula materials can be found at http://www.cyber.org.

Materials in this kit include: assorted colors of cardstock, marbles, poster board, masking tape, flexible straws, string, and levels.
