Grades 8.

As agents in training for the Homeland Action Response Program (HARP), a national intelligence agency, students learn about cryptography as a means for secret communication. As new recruits, students learn how to create and decipher codes using the entry level decoding devices that are founded on the principles of music. Using the engineering design process as a guide, students will work to construct a harp and decipher messages coded in sheet music. This kit contains enough materials for 10 groups. Access to curricula materials can be found at http://www.cyber.org.

Materials in this kit include: slinky, rubber bands, flying disks, stretch cord, screw eyes, jewelry crimps, beads, string, container, paper bowls, metal brads, protractor, paper, drill, compass, crimping tool, and super glue.
