Grades 8.

This kit is for use with Cyber.org (formerly NICERC) STEM curriculum, offered free at Cyber.org. First, visit that site and choose your curriculum. Then, find the corresponding materials kits and consumables refills at NascoEducation.com.

Students are challenged to design a vessel that represents supplies being dropped to refugees. Students will use the engineering design process as a guide to research concepts related to objects falling from a specific height, brainstorm vessel designs, build, and test their own vessel that will hold an egg. Throughout the module, students will apply concepts of potential energy, kinetic energy, motion, gravity, velocity, drag, and the Law of Conservation of Energy while also taking into consideration the cost of building and shipping the vessels. This kit contains enough materials for 10 groups. Access to curricula materials can be found at http://www.cyber.org.

Materials in this kit include: masking tape, rubber bands, paper clips, cardstock, garbage bags, straws, twine, plastic eggs, modeling clay, foam cups, foam bowls, toilet paper, and cotton balls.
