Grade 8.

As members of a humanitarian organization, students travel to a third world country to help with the reconstruction of homes after a devastating earthquake. As global engineers, not only must the students design new buildings that are earthquake resistant, but they must also address the needs of the community they are serving. Throughout the module, the students will use the engineering design process to build a structure that will be tested on a homemade shake table. This kit contains enough materials for 10 groups. Access to curricula materials can be found at http://www.cyber.org.

Materials in this kit include: modeling clay, fishing line, balsa wood, straws, craft sticks, paper clips, cotton balls, poster board, dowel rods, wrapping paper, cardboard box, screw eye hooks, nylon string and marbles.
