Nasco Mrs. Jeanne Painted Papers Classroom Kit
Grades K–5 Show students that painting over recycled paper can bring a fun and colorful visual style to projects. This kit includes a lesson plan and enough supplies for a class of 24 students to apply the paper painting techniques of author and illustrator Jeanne Styczinski for painted paper projects.
Before students start painting, introduce them to Jeanne's illustrations with two of her books Papa, Why Does the Sun Shine?
and Mama, How Does the Wind Blow?
The books are full of her illustrations, which were created by painting over recycled newspaper, using everyday objects to print patterns or textures, and using a collage technique. Inspire students to paint their own papers using pattern tools and stampers to give projects a unique look through three fun lessons.
After completing this project, students will be able to say:
- I can learn about recycled materials.
- I can recognize textures and patterns.
- I can understand mixed media and collage to create things.
