Grades 5-12.
Offering an introduction to a long-standing problem, this kit will help your students understand the effect of invasive species and why we should help to prevent their spread. Once invasive species become established in a lake or stream, they become nearly impossible to eliminate. Their impact on a lake or stream is an area of great concern to environmentalist and sportsman alike. The kit contains samples of eight invasive species in safe, nonformaldehyde NASCO-Guard®. A complete teacher’s guide contains maps, activities, games, and information regarding this worldwide environmental problem. Great Lakes invasive species contained in this kit may include Round Goby, Eurasian Milfoil, Ruffe, Smelt, Waterflea, Zebra Mussels, Purple Loosestrife, Alewife, Stickleback (three or five spine), Curley Leaf Pond Weed, Rusty Crayfish, and Sea Lamprey, depending on availability.
