A diffraction grating spectroscope is used to show that sunlight can be broken into colored light, and to study these colors and their relationships. Students view different types of light with the spectroscope and compare the spectra. Students draw what they see, the colors side-by-side to the same scale, to form their own spectrum. From this, students observe and define different spectra, a preparation for understanding methods used in astronomy. Includes a diffraction grating spectroscope, 1 in. diameter.
