Bring tessellations and polyhedra together for a hands-on learning experience rich in math content. Nets for 24 different polyhedra, including all of the Platonic and Archidedean solids, are presented both with and without tessellations applied to them. This allows polyhedra to be built with ready-made designs that can be colored if desired, or printed in beautiful color using the included CD-ROM. Other options are to build undecorated polyhedra that have the names and key properties on them or to use templates to design new tessellations that can be applied to the polyhedra. Also contains background on polyhedra, templates for tessellated cones, cylinders, and Mbius strips, and 10 activities with worksheets that address 10 different specific Common Core State Standards. CD-ROM is compatible with both PC and Macintosh®. 125 pages. Grades 7-12.

CCSS Product Alignment
Math Grade 6
6.G.4 Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Math Grade 7
7.G.3 Describe the two-dimensional figures that result from slicing three-dimensional figures, as in plane sections of right rectangular prisms and right rectangular pyramids.
7.G.6 Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.
Math Grade 8
8.G.7 Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in right triangles in real-world and mathematical problems in two and three dimensions.
8.G.9 Know the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
Math High School: Algebra
HSA.CED.4 Rearrange formulas to highlight a quantity of interest, using the same reasoning as in solving equations. For example, rearrange Ohm’s law V = IR to highlight resistance R.
Math High School: Geometry
HSG.CO.5 Given a geometric figure and a rotation, reflection, or translation, draw the transformed figure using, e.g., graph paper, tracing paper, or geometry software. Specify a sequence of transformations that will carry a given figure onto another.
HSG.GMD.3 Use volume formulas for cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres to solve problems.
