A low-tech hands-on solution to presenting high-tech topics. Extract DNA from strawberries and examine physical properties. Provides everything necessary (except strawberries) along with cell lysating solutions and DNA precipitating solutions. Students extract DNA by crushing the strawberry, then lysing to release cell components and finally precipitating and viewing DNA after spooling DNA on a splint. Includes instructions and background information. Designed for a class of 32 students working in eight teams of four. Contains material to conduct two extractions. Easy to perform using frozen strawberries.
