Students use Lab-Aids® cards to identify different kinds of objects found in space with a focus on those observed in our Solar System. The cards contain comparable characteristics of the different objects, and students use this information to develop a system of classification. They then compare their own classification system with the standard system used by astronomers. Students apply their knowledge by analyzing the reasons for the reclassification of Pluto and deciding whether they think it should be classified as a planet or a dwarf planet. Kit includes 6 space object classification cards, set of 8 Lab-Aids®, 6 space object data cards, set of 24 Lab-Aids®, 28 student worksheets and guides, one teacher’s guide, and one space objects transparency. Designed to accommodate 24 students working in groups of four.
