Building Math Series for TEKS - Stranded!

Grades 6-8.

In Stranded!, students are marooned on a desert island where they must identify their location, build shelter, distill water, and learn how to load and provision small canoes. This simulation is uniquely appropriate for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) initiatives. The program uses algebraic thinking and data analysis to solve engineering problems in real-world settings. Students conduct math investigations and use the engineering design process to solve problems they encounter. Contains three design challenges, each lasting about three weeks. Includes a poster illustrating the engineering design process, and a DVD with classroom implementation samples. Addresses TEKS standards and ITEEA standards for technological literacy. Can be used to replace, supplement, or enrich units in existing math curriculum.
