Grades 9-12. This DVD focuses on selection and management procedures based on reproductive efficiency of bulls and yearlings. Students view detailed anatomy of the bull and cow in both graphic and real-life representations. Information is presented concerning the estrus cycle, estrus detection, artificial synchronization of estrus, super ovulation, semen collection and processing, artificial insemination, pregnancy diagnosis, embryo development, and embryo transfer. More than 20 fetuses at varying stages of development are presented. DVD focuses on management practices vital for the reproductive efficiency: nutrition, body condition, vaccinations, breeding programs, and some causes of reduced reproduction. The process of calving, delivery difficulties, and post-calving management of the cow and the calf are discussed. Students learn every step of embryo transfer, administering hormones to induce super ovulation, egg fertilization and embryo growth, embryo collection from the mother cow, washing, preparing, and freezing the embryo, shipping and storage, thawing procedures, and placement of the embryo into a recipient cow.
