Logistics Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Procurement

DUTIES:

  • Communicate with domestic and international carriers on a daily basis, coordinating shipments as required in support of customer expectations.
  • Identify and follow consistent procedures in coordinating logistics functions, ensuring compliance across Nasco entities in the US.
  • Direct experience in working with global freight forwarders and/or vessel carriers, in addition to functioning in a global setting working across regions throughout the world.
  • Communication and coordination with third party auditing, billing, and invoice payment services.
  • Provide estimates and quotations on shipment costs and lead-times to peer departments within the organization, ranging from small parcel, LTL, FTL, and ocean container shipments.
  • Ensure that shipment transactions are recorded in our business system on a consistent and daily basis.
  • Strong cross-functional oral and written communication skills within the organization at all levels, keeping in mind the organizational objectives and support to internal and external customers.
  • Identifying and implementing carrier options to avoid disruption in meeting customer shipments and expectations, including negotiation of rates as required.
  • Optimize logistics routes globally with our customer and supply base in a manner in which import/export fees and tariffs are minimized, providing the lowest cost solution to transporting goods.
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees within the distribution center, ensuring that appropriate procedures and practices are following in a consistent manner.
  • Truck Shipments — Direct the routing and classifications of all truck shipments to insure the best possible incoming and outgoing freight rates for Nasco and its customers. Work with sales representatives of the trucking companies to negotiate best possible pricing and discounts on shipments.
  • Special Shipments — See that hazardous material shipments meet the current requirements of the Department of Transportation in regard to small parcel, truck, and other shipping methods. Supervise the documentation, packaging, and labeling of all hazardous materials to be sure Nasco is in compliance with current D.O.T. regulations.
  • Complete all other projects as assigned by Management.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in business or other related discipline, along with 3-5 years of experience in logistics coordination consisting of domestic and international shipments.
  • Knowledge of required documentation such as bills of lading, hazardous materials certification, etc.
  • Experiences in managing total logistics functions within a manufacturing and/or distribution setting.
  • Possess excellent communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Ability to provide direction and coordinate multiple types of shipments on a daily basis, with solid attention to detail.
  • Ensure that logistics processes are in compliance with local, federal, and international requirements.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
