NICSI (which stands for Now I Can See It) Mountain Math is a simple, yet powerful new program designed to introduce and strengthen student understanding of critical mathematical concepts. Based on the times tables, the structure is divided into 12 colorful staircases. Each staircase is a series of scaled steps representing the multiples of a particular number (1 through 12). For example, on the staircase representing grouping by ones, 1X, each step is 1 token (also called 1 unit) high, with a total of 36 steps to reach the maximum elevation of 36. Tokens are the key to all of these games. They can be used numbered side or blank side up to claim territory, to indicate movement toward a goal, to determine scores, and so on. Each game tells you how to set up and use the tokens. Many games require you to “put the multiples on the mountain” as part of the setup. For each staircase you place tokens in the notches that represent the elevations (the height of the step on the staircase times the number of steps to get to that level). For most games you may use any color of foam card with any staircase, but occasionally you need to match the color of the foam card and the staircase. Mountain measures 7-1/2" H with an 18" diameter.
