After completing this course, the learner should be able to describe and demonstrate open and closed in-line nasotracheal, oropharyngeal, and endotracheal suctioning techniques and when to use each. Learners will also be able to list physiological effects of accumulated respiratory secretions; identify assessment findings used to establish the need for suctioning; name potential complications with suctioning procedures; and discuss rationale related to oxygenation prior to, during, and after suctioning the patient. 35 minutes.
