This model was developed with the purpose of helping health care workers learn the mechanism of swallowing and the proper method of preventing swallowing disorders (miss-swallowing) when assisting patients in eating. Learning this procedure will help prevent pneumonia caused by swallowing disorders which is often overlooked in caring for the elderly. Procedures can be viewed through the dissected half of the head and neck which is protected by a transparent cover. Features a soft tongue that can be pulled out for study. The neck angle can be bent 15° forward and 30° backward to teach the relation between neck angle and movement of the esophagus. The model also lets users study the mechanism of swallowing, learn what causes miss-swallowing, study proper posture when eating and its relation with bed angle, study neck angle (head angle) and its relation with miss-swallowing, practice emergency care when food gets stuck, practice swallowing drills, practice in giving mouth care, learn how to insert tube through nose and the intermittent tube eating method, and study internal mouth absorbency. Includes transparent cover, pillow, bolus model with wire, and storage case. Measures 13" x 24-3/8" x 13".
