This primary-secondary coil is ideal for studying electricity and magnetism in the physics classroom. It is also an excellent demonstration induction coil that is remarkably easy to use. Consisting of two wire coils and one soft iron core, it features a primary (inner) coil heavy wire and a secondary (outer) coil of fine wire. Both coils feature binding posts attached to sturdy plastic mountings which are non-metallic for maximum efficiency. Instructions include questions and theory. Applications include: electromagnetic induction (Faraday’s and Lenz’ laws of induction), induced currents and induced magnetic fields, and step-up/step-down transformers. Contains: primary coil with 250 turn in two layers of #23 wire (1.4 resistance), secondary coil with 1,250 turns in four layers of #28 wire (23 resistance), 9 mm dia. iron core, and instructions. Use requires battery, galvanometer, and switch. Grades 6-12.
