Analyze a family trait from roots to offspring! Students are cast in the role of genetic detectives and challenged to resolve various genetic scenarios. Provided with information about a family with a unique trait, they will use karyotyping, simulated gel electrophoresis, family history and pedigree analysis to track down the genetic roots for the trait. In pursuit of the answer to their mystery, they’ll investigate autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, and sex-linked genetic. Versatile, yet simple activity will get students excited about the fascinating world of genetics and heredity. Grades 7-12.
