A gyroscope consists of a rotor, spinning at several thousand revolutions per minute, mounted in “gimbal rings” supported in turn by various “gimbal cradles” appropriate for its function. The spinning rotor has two interesting properties: high inertial and perpendicular axes. This hands-on device runs up to 3 minutes with little vibration because it’s precision machined and balanced. It features a dynamically balanced 6 cm diameter steel rotor with near-frictionless Teflon™ bearings. The gimbal cradle with cone bearings pivots to hold the spinning gyroscope in place. Includes: pull string and handle, molded plastic base, molded plastic rocker with attached gimbal cradle, weight set and support hook, and instructions with theory and tips. Grades 6-12.
