Mini-Surber™ Sampler

A surber is a type of water sampling net used to sample for specific macrobenthos in flowing water such as streams or rivers. Its main advantages are portability and ease of use. Position the device on the stream bottom, then stir up the bottom within the sampler so that any animal life will float up and drift into the net. The downstream current washes invertebrates into the net. The Mini-Surber™ features the same stainless steel frame, 500 micron Nitex® bolt cloth net, and taffeta wings as our larger surbers. While the size and price make it ideal for student studies, it is also useful for sampling small rivulets and intermittent streams. Avoid still water, fast current, and streams deeper than 6". Net measures 11" long.
