Product Description
Get this container close to an active Van de Graaf Generator and watch the tiny conductive balls begin to bounce up and down. It looks as if the pieces are “hailing” as they skitter and rebound. The ceiling and floor of the Volta’s Hailstorm are metallic, and when it is close to the generator the floor and ceiling become charged. The conductive balls fly around losing and gaining their charge until the generator is removed. This device can also show Coulomb’s Law of electrostatic force and illustrate the method of smoke control based on the electrostatic removal of solid particles from the smoke stream. Includes transparent cage mounted on sturdy base; ball terminal to attract electric charge; tiny, polystyrene balls; and instructions. Unit measures 4" W x 4" L x 12" H. Grades 6-12.
