Use agarose gel electrophoresis to test family ties. Simulate how DNA fingerprinting can be used to identify the genetic relationship between a child and an alleged father. Your class will use the results of an electrophoresis of nonhuman DNA, their knowledge of human inheritance, and their scientific problem solving skills to solve a scenario-based paternity case and determine the identify of a child’s father. Materials for 40 students. Grades 9-12.
