A quick and clean way to visualize magnetic fields. The unit is a transparent acrylic case that holds iron filings in a fluid of proper viscosity. Simply place an alnico or neodymium magnet (bar magnet, horseshoe magnet, etc.) on the device, and the iron filings will move to form a pattern that shows the magnetic field of that magnet. The unit can also be placed on an overhead projector for classroom demonstration. Dimensions: 8-1/2" x 4-1/2" x 3/8". Grades 5-12.
