Specific gravity is the process of studying the variation of weights of different minerals. Every mineral has an average weight per unit volume. The weight is usually described as a comparison with the same volume of water. The number that represents this comparison is called the specific gravity, and is given in grams per cubic centimeter or tons per cubic meter. Kit includes 15 specimens (each approximately 1-1/2" x 1-1/2"), boxed and number coded with an explanatory insert. Specimens include: halite, graphite, bauxite, gypsum, microcline, talc, quartz, beryl, calcite, fluorite, augite, barite, magnetite, galena, and copper. Grades 6-12.
