Product Details
The purpose of this experimental study is to determine the relative effectiveness of various commercial sunscreen lotions under laboratory conditions. The experiments can serve to interest students in scientific investigation of consumer products, serve as a basis for an individual study project, or as an idea to plan a science fair project around. The experiments consist of allowing light energy to act upon a photosensitive chemical agent with the blocking of the light energy dependent upon the sunscreen employed. After the exposure, the amount of chemical conversion is measured and plotted as a function of the “Sun Protection Factor” (SPF). Complete for 24 students working in groups of four.
