Students have the opportunity to observe the major components of plant and animal cells using simplified staining procedures. Student activities include observation of cell components: nucleus, nucleons, membrane, and organelles. Other activities include the staining of mitochondria, storage inclusions, cell walls, chloroplasts, and granules. The function of the cell membrane is demonstrated, and both plant and animal cells are compared. Living cells are observed, showing cytoplasmic streaming and chemical activity.
