This series helps young readers acquire and enhance 42 literal, inferential, critical, and visual reading skills through a multiple-step guided reading approach. Key concepts include setting, identifying the speaker, author’s purpose, making judgements, and 40 skills. Students progress through text introductions and predictions, vocabulary development, focused reading, skill and open-ended questions, peer discussion groups, and culminating critical-thinking activities as they travel through each grade-specific environment. Narrative, informational, persuasive/argumentative, and everyday/work texts are grade-appropriate. Includes pretest and instruction, practice, and application stages that ensure that students are properly challenged. A complete management system and extensive use of voice and illustrations enhance this robust package.
