This series helps young readers acquire and enhance 42 literal, inferential, critical, and visual reading skills through a multiple-step guided reading approach. Key concepts include comparison/contrast, fact/opinion, cause/effect, reasoning, and 25 skills. Students progress through text introductions and predictions, vocabulary development, focused reading, skill and open-ended questions, peer discussion groups, and culminating critical-thinking activities as they travel through each grade-specific environment. Narrative, informational, persuasive/argumentative, and everyday/work texts are grade-appropriate. Includes pretest and instruction, practice, and application stages that ensure that students are properly challenged. A complete management system and extensive use of voice and illustrations enhance this robust package.
