This past September marked the launch of the USDA MyPlate Fruits & Veggies Video Challenge, which invited individuals and teams to create and submit short videos showing how they're adding fruits and vegetables to their diet, without straining their budget.
Entrants were encouraged to produce inspiring and instructive videos illustrating a healthy tip that worked for them and could work for others. Schools, community groups, and families submitted videos in three categories: Tips for Kids, Tips When Eating at Home, and Tips When Eating Away from Home. The goal of the contest was to promote healthy eating habits and raise awareness around the USDA MyPlate dietary guidelines (ChooseMyPlate.gov) which includes filling half your plate with fruits and vegetables. The USDA received 142 submissions and awarded $9,000 in prize money to 1st, 2nd, and Popular Vote winners, plus five videos were selected for honorable mention.
